East Kent IAPT procurement

Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) is an NHS programme rolling out services across England offering interventions approved by the National Institute of Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) for treating people with depression and anxiety disorders.

The NHS in east Kent is committed to making sure that talking therapies are available for people with anxiety, depression and other common mental health problems. We want people who need talking therapies to get a high quality service and have a choice of provider.

The current contracts for NHS talking therapies which started in 2012 run out at the end of December 2015.

So the four clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) in east Kent, which plan and pay for the majority of local health services, have carried out a procurement for organisations to provide talking therapies from 1 January 2016

The CCGs involved service users and carers to improve the service specification and to improve the future quality of care. GPs from the east Kent CCGs were also involved throughout the process.

The decision was taken by the CCGs that they would each award contracts to four organisations providing talking therapies in their area, to give local people a choice.

The procurement is now complete and details of the organisations appointed in NHS Ashford CCG area are below.

Faversham Counselling Service, Insight Healthcare, Addaction, University Medical Centre.

We will be working with all organisations which currently provide talking therapies in east Kent over the coming weeks to ensure that robust plans are in place for communicating changes to people who use the service and to GPs and others who refer to it.

We would like to thank all the members of the public who were involved.
