Accountable Officer

Simon Perks is NHS Ashford CCG’s Accountable Officer and is responsible for ensuring the CCG carries out its duties and responsibilities and improves services and the local population’s health. He is also NHS Canterbury and Coastal CCG’s Accountable Officer.

Mr Perks has worked directly with local GPs since 2010 to establish Clinical Commissioning Groups. He started his NHS career in 1979 as a nurse at Westminster Hospital. He moved into hospital general management in the 1990s and worked in a number of London hospitals before moving to Kent and Canterbury Hospital in Canterbury and later the East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust.

He was Director of Operations and later Director of Business Development at Queen Mary’s, Sidcup before returning to east Kent in 2008 to join the primary care trust. As Deputy Director of Commissioning he was responsible for developing strategic and operational plans and for the leadership of practice based commissioning.

He has a diploma in health management from Manchester University and a master’s degree in Public Administration from Warwick Business School.

He spent his childhood in Tonbridge and moved back to Kent in 1994.

He is married and is a father of four. In his spare time he enjoys walking his dog, cycling and sailing.
