Lay member, secondary care specialist

Consultant psychiatrist Dr Dinesh Sinha, 39, is NHS Ashford Clinical Commissioning Group’s lay member for secondary (specialist) care. He specialises in adult psychiatry and psychotherapy withEast London NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Sinha was born in India, where he took his first degree, and then  moved to north east England in 1999 and then to south London’s Maudsley Hospital in South London, one of the oldest centres of academic and clinical psychiatry, in 2003.

He later completed psychotherapy training in west London and has been a consultant since 2008. He completed an MBA from the Lancaster University Management School in 2011. After a spell in Cambridge he moved back to London last year and took up his latest role in east London this April. He has lectured in India, Brazil and Singapore and has particular interests in mental health, psychotherapy and competition in healthcare.

He said: “The introduction of clinical commissioning groups is a significant change to the health service. I wanted to get involved in helping to make it work rather than sit on the side-lines. I want to ensure any impact on secondary care is considered when the governing body makes any decisions.”

He was appointed to NHS Ashford Clinical Commissioning Group in November 2012. He is also a lay member of Brighton and Hove CCG and worked with the isle of Wight CCG until March this year. His hobbies include travel, cinema, cooking and writing.
